Toyota Tsusho Corporation (“Toyota Tsusho”) announced today that its U.S. subsidiary, Toyota Tsusho America Inc. (“Toyota Tsusho America”), and a U.S. insurance brokerage, Hylant Group Inc. (“Hylant”), have established a new company, HYLANT & TOYOTSU Insurance Services, LLC (“Hylant Toyotsu”) in April 2025, to provide insurance brokerage services to Japanese companies in the U.S.

1. Background of Company Establishment

Hylant is an insurance brokerage with over 90 years of history. It has a wide range of expertise in fields such as non-life and medical insurance and is known for making insurance proposals that take on the customer’s perspective. It operates mainly in the Midwest and Southern regions of the U.S., where many Japanese manufacturers are concentrated, and has strengths in serving Japanese companies, including a Japanese bilingual team with extensive business experience.

In recent years, Japanese companies operating in the U.S. are finding it increasingly difficult to renew their insurance policies due to skyrocketing non-life insurance premiums and stricter insurance underwriting conditions. In addition, medical insurance premiums borne by companies have also skyrocketed in line with rising medical costs, and as the second largest cost after labor costs, they have become a significant factor in putting pressure on management.

On the other hand, insurance is complex and requires specialized knowledge, so it is not easy for many Japanese companies to review their insurance policies.

2. Overview of Joint Venture Company

Hylant Toyotsu is an insurance brokerage that specializes in providing Japanese companies with a full range of insurance, from corporate non-life insurance and medical insurance to personal insurance for expatriates and their families.

By combining Hylant’s strengths with the know-how of Toyota Tsusho America, which has contacts with many Japanese companies, Hylant Toyotsu will provide insurance services that are well-versed in both the U.S. insurance market and Japanese companies. In addition, by having Toyota Tsusho support the head office side of Japanese companies, Hylant Toyotsu can provide more detailed services from both Japanese and U.S. business perspectives.

Japanese companies will be able to consult in Japanese about insurance in the U.S., which is complex and requires specialized knowledge, as well as accurately understand proposed insurance plans, enabling them to feel confident in selecting the optimal insurance plan to suit their needs. Specifically, by selecting the optimal insurance plan—which is proposed based on a thorough understanding of business-specific risks and the customer’s business operations—from among approximately 200 affiliated insurance companies, it will be possible to reduce insurance premiums.

Hylant Toyotsu will begin by strengthening its business with a focus on the Midwest and Southern regions, while working to expand its business to cover the entire U.S. in the future.

Hylant Toyotsu aims to become the most reliable insurance brokerage for Japanese companies in the U.S. by proposing insurance services tailored to the needs of its customers.
